Rolex Middle Sea Race 2012

This year we will be competing in the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2012 with ‘Little Emily’ our Beneteau
First 40.7. ‘Little Emily’ has an outstanding track record as a racer cruiser and comes with a very competitive IRC rating.
She has been professionally managed and maintained and includes a few ’race’ extras not normally found as standard.
She is Category 2 MCA coded for 12 people and is complete with race sails and spinnakers.
The Rolex Middle Sea Race is a highly rated offshore classic, often mentioned in the same breath as the Rolex Fastnet and
Rolex Sydney – Hobart race. It was co-founded by the Royal Malta Yacht Club and the Royal Ocean Racing Club in 1968 and 2012
will be the 33rd Edition. The Race course is 606 nautical miles long and is sailed anti-clockwise. Starting on the 20th of October from Grand Harbour, Valletta, the fleet head north along the eastern coasts of Sicily  up towards the Straits of Messina. Mt Etna is usually visible on the fleet’s port side, billowing ashes and lava throughout the night. Once through the Straits, the course leads north to the Aeolian Islands and the active volcano of Stromboli where the yachts turn west to the Egadi Islands.

Passing between Marettimo and Favignana the crews head south towards the island of Lampedusa leaving Pantelleria to port. Once past Lampedusa the fleet turns northeast on the final leg towards the South Comino Channel and the finish line at Marsamxett Harbour. En route the crews take in an amazing diversity of landscape and sea conditions, all of which combine to create the attraction and challenge of the race.

The Rolex Middle Sea Race campaign

We are limiting places to 8 people for this year’s Rolex Middle Sea race, plus one skipper and professional first mate.

On arrival in Malta, five days of race training and preparation will take place, starting from Monday the 15th of October, giving everyone enough time to familiarise themselves with all the racing manoeuvres and the rest of the team before the official start of the Middle Sea Race on the 20th of October.

Three to five days of full on yacht racing follows, competing against some of the world’s top racing yachts in often changeable and demanding conditions and in what is often described as the most beautiful race course in the world.

This prestigious opportunity is offered to you at a price of £1950.00 per person.
