An introduction to navigation and safety awareness for new, inexperienced or rusty skippers and crew.
This course is the perfect introduction or refresher for anyone going afloat on inshore waters, and a stepping stone to the more in-depth Day Skipper shorebased course. You will cover subjects such as nautical terms, safety, chart work, tides, meteorology, passage planning, pilotage and international regulations for preventing collisions at sea. A shorebased course completion certificate will be issued
upon the successful conclusion of the course.

Navigation and seamanship for those new to navigation or wanting to consolidate existing skills.
The Day Skipper Shorebased covers the essential background knowledge needed to navigate a yacht on simple passages.
The course includes nautical terminology, rope work, safety and emergency procedures, collision avoidance, compass, chart work, tides, meteorology, passage planning and pilotage.

An advanced course in the theory of navigation and meteorology for sailors with some
previous navigational experience.
The course builds on basic navigation skills, developing a comprehensive depth of knowledge and understanding of navigation theories, techniques and practices. Yachtmaster / Coastal Skipper Theory covers all the background knowledge needed to progress to the practical examinations for the RYA
Coastal Skipper or RYA Yachtmaster Certificates of Competence.
The course includes position fixing, using a magnetic compass, tides, tidal streams, buoyage, lights, pilotage, an introduction to GPS and electronic chart plotters, meteorology, collision prevention
regulations, safety, navigation and passage planning.
