Top places to visit
Melissani Lake is beautiful cave-lagoon only 3km from the graphical
town of Sami. According to the locals the name of the cave was probably
derived from the swarms of wild bees that lived in the cave.
Assos Village is a tiny hamlet nestling at the base of a peninsula crowned
by an imposing Venetian fortress.
Drogarati cave is said to be 150 million years old. A large chamber 37
metres underground is decorated by stalactites hanging from the roof top,
reminding you of nature at its most remote. The cool, underground
temperatures make it a great place to visit and escape the heat of the day.
There are plenty of monasteries and churches to visit. The most famous
are the ones of Saint Gerassimos and Kipouria.
Visiting the beaches of Petanoi, Platia Ammos and Myrtos, with their
breathtaking views and crystal clear waters, is a must during your stay.
As for tavernas, there are many of both excellent value and quality.
